Tuesday, June 9, 2009 LAS VEGAS--UNLV women's golf sophomore Therese Koelbaek was named to Golfweek's honorable mention All-American team for the second consecutive year, the organization announced this week. Quickly becoming one of the best players in program history, Koelbaek put together a strong sophomore season that saw her post six top-10 finishes while her scoring average of 73.24 was second in the league. During her rookie season she won two events, including sharing medalist honors at the 2008 NCAA West Regional, and she was named the MWC Freshman of the Year.
"What a great honor for Therese," UNLV head coach Missy Ringler said. "This is two years in a row she has been recognized by Golfweek Magazine. She is truly a great talent and I couldn't be more proud of her." Koelbaek has the second-lowest career scoring average in UNLV history with a 73.53 and she has two of the three lowest scoring averages for a season as well. Overall she has posted 11 top-five finishes, including the pair of victories, and she is one of three Rebels to win at least two tournaments in a career. Koelbaek is the third Rebel to earn All-America honors, joining Sunny Oh, who was an honorable mention selection in 2003 and a second team member in 2004, and Da Sol Chung, who was a first team member in 2006.
