LAS VEGAS, Nevada--McGhie's, the largest specialty bicycle retailer in Southern Nevada, has been recognized as one of the 2009 Top 100 Bicycle Retailers in the country by a panel of leading manufacturers' sales representatives.

In May, the 15,000-square-foot McGhie's located at 4035 S. Fort Apache Road received the Top 100 honor from Boulder Sports Research, a leading bicycle industry research company. Working with 15 major suppliers in the industry and the industry's leading trade publication Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, criteria used to pick the winners included market share, community outreach and store appearance.

"There are more than 5,000 bicycle retailers in the United States," Thomas Prehn, president of Boulder Sports Research, said. "For McGhie's to achieve the status of one of the Top 100 Bicycle Retailers in the nation is no small feat. This bike shop stands as the best of the best."

McGhie's has been in business in Southern Nevada for over 30 years.  Co-owners Randy and Maria McGhie attribute the recognition to its large selection of in-stock bicycles and the quality customer service.

"We're fortunate that we have been in business for 30 years. I think that one of the reasons why we have been successful is that we are the largest bicycle store in Las Vegas and nobody provides as much selection as we do in-stock and on the floor," Randy McGhie said. "Our clientele is really varied. We have people buying bikes for their kids all the way up to people who are buying expensive road and mountain bikes.

"We have always pushed customer service, and we make that a prime focus to help each customer find the bike that best fits their needs. This service helps create loyal customers and leads to recognition from our peers like that of Boulder Sports Research."

The business has maintained an active presence within the local bicycling community. It sponsors an active racing team, women’s team and club team, and has been an official sponsor of bicycle races and events including the Tour de Summerlin.
