Thursday, May 7, 2009 HENDERSON, Nev.--A grand opening celebration will be held for the new Madeira Canyon Park, located at 2390 Democracy Dr. (at Canyon Retreat and Democracy Drive), from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 16. The free event is hosted and sponsored by Pulte Homes in cooperation with the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. It is open to the public.
The celebration will include entertainment, light refreshments, and activities for children. Members of the Henderson City Council will be on hand for the ribbon-cutting ceremony and to officially open the park. The 19-acre park is the newest addition to Henderson's Parks and Recreation system. It features ball fields, multi-use fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, barbecues, shaded playground, enclosed tot lot, horseshoe pits, splash pad, restrooms and a variety of shaded picnic shelters. "We are very pleased to add this park to our system," said Ray Everhart, park operations manager for the City of Henderson. "It's not only a beautifully built and equipped park, but it also features some amazing panoramic views of the Las Vegas Valley. This is going to be one of our finer parks." Madeira Canyon Park is a $10.6 million turnkey park project built by developer Pulte Homes. Pulte Homes built the park to City of Henderson specifications to complement its new neighborhoods, The Paseo and The Club at Madeira Canyon. Now that the park is complete, Pulte Homes is officially turning the park over to the city for programming, maintenance, and use by the public. "Our turnkey park program is an invaluable public/private partnership in which the beneficiaries are Henderson residents," said Dominick Casey, assistant director of the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. "The program is important because such partnerships enable developers to build better neighborhoods. The City of Henderson has added more than a dozen such parks to our inventory over the last decade, making parks and recreation more accessible to more residents. We appreciate Pulte Homes' investment in our community." -City of Henderson-
