Saturday, April 4, 2009 Colorado Springs--With a Colorado spring blizzard swirling outside, the 46th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team managed to stay hot indoors on Saturday, sweeping Wyoming 7-0 in a neutral-site matchup at the Air Force Academy.
The Lady Rebels improved to 14-6 and remained in first place in the Mountain West Conference at 5-0 while the Cowgirls fell to 7-12 and 1-4. With Wyoming only fielding five players, UNLV opened the morning by taking both doubles matches for a 1-0 lead. Kristina Nedeltcheva and Katy Williams won 8-5 at the top spot and Alisa Razina and Anna Maskaljun prevailed by the same score on court two. The final match was defaulted by the Cowgirls. The Lady Rebels only lost one set in singles play. Nedeltcheva, ranked 125th, improved to 19-8 with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sara Summerfield at top of the lineup. Nikol Dimitrova used a super-tiebreaker to finish off Rebecca Berger at No. 2, 6-4, 1-6, 1-0 (10-5). Williams reached the 20-win mark at No. 3, prevailing over Carly Van Hollen 6-1, 6-3. Adrienn Hidvegi earned her team-leading 21st victory, 6-1, 6-1 over Carolina Chaix at No. 4. Freshman Rumyana Terzieva won for the fifth time in six outings at the fifth spot, 6-4, 6-4 over Jamie Nelson. Razina won by default on court six with no Cowgirl available to play. UNLV will close out its Rocky Mountain road trip by taking on Colorado State on Sunday beginning at noon PDT. For official results click here. -UNLV- |
