Salt Lake City--The 65th-ranked UNLV men's tennis team was upset 6-1 by BYU on Saturday playing indoors at the Eccles Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Utah.
The Rebels fell to 12-11 overall and 1-4 in Mountain West Conference play while the unranked Cougars improved to 13-10 and 1-2. Despite UNLV winning at the top of both the singles and doubles lineups, BYU dominated the scoring. After Elliot Wronski and Luca Barlocchi teamed up for an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 spot over A.J. Young and Georgy Batrakov, the Cougars won on courts two and three to take a 1-0 lead. In singles, Wronski cruised past Roman Warias 6-0, 6-3 to post the Rebels' only point. Mehdi Bouras, playing at No. 2, and Atilla Toth, playing on court five, managed to spit sets before losing. UNLV will close its regular-season schedule vs. San Diego State in a makeup match later this month at a date still to be determined. For official results click here. -UNLV- |
