Pepperdine Continues Mastery Of UNLV

Saturday, February 28, 2009

MALIBU, Calif. -- The 49th-ranked UNLV women’s tennis team lost to No. 55 Pepperdine for the third time in less than a calendar year, this time 7-0 on Saturday at the Ralphs-Straus Tennis Center.

UNLV, which is now 0-13 all-time vs. the Waves, fell 6-3 on the season.

The Lady Rebels, who lost 4-3 to Pepperdine in Las Vegas last March and then again in May during the first round of NCAA championships in Los Angeles, were shut out for the first time in a complete match since Feb. 10, 2006, at No. 1 Stanford.

The Waves began the morning by sweeping three doubles matches for one team point.

Defending Mountain West Conference Player of the Week Kristina Nedeltcheva, ranked 117th, was the only UNLV player to win even a set but ultimately lost to Anamika Bhargava 0-6, 6-1, 6-0 at the top of the singles lineup.

Next up, UNLV hosts Boise State on Friday beginning with doubles play at 10 a.m. Admission is free of charge.
