April 2008 Leagues, Sports, Swimming, Fitness, Martial Arts and
Adaptive Recreation Activities

All activities are subject to change. List is not all-inclusive. Call centers near you for complete list of classes and activities. Most activities require advance registration. Spring I registration will be held Feb. 9-29 for classes March 3-April 12. Spring II registration will be held April 5-25 for classes
 April 28-June 7. Ask for Summer Leisure Guide, available March 10.

Leagues, Sports & Swimming (all ages)

Police Athletic League Youth Boxing Program (ages 8-17)
Wednesdays, 5 to 7 p.m.
Fee: $25 registration fee plus $20 per month

Boys and girls learn to box and get in shape in this physically demanding new program.

Doolittle Tumblers (ages 5-16)
Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Fee: $15 per month

Tot Sports (ages 2-6)
4:30-5:30 p.m.; Basketball Mondays; Football Tuesdays; Soccer Wednesdays; T-Ball Thursdays.
Fee: $45 per month per sport.

Boys and girls develop hand/eye coordination while learning game fundamentals.

After-School Tennis Program (grades 6-8)
Monday through Friday, after school to 6 p.m.
Fee: $40 per month

Participants learn tennis fundamentals, work on homework and engage in other activities.

Sports Galore (all ages)
Fees: vary; some are free with $2 annual membership.

Dula offers bowling at Texas Station; pickle ball, table tennis, bocce, golf, paddle tennis, open basketball, basketball leagues, volleyball, hiking and weight training. Call for days and times.

Learn to Swim (ages 4-adult)
Tuesdays and Thursdays or Saturdays. Classes begin each month.
Fee: $20 per session of 4 lessons or $25 for 6 lessons;

Badminton (ages 40+)

Soccer Club (ages 4-10)
Mondays, 6 to 8 p.m., beginning April 28.
Fee: $10 for six-week session; supplies not included.

Futbol Academy Speed Training (ages 4-19)
Mondays and Wednesdays, 6 to 8 p.m., beginning April 28.
Fee: $20 for six-week session; supplies not included. Instructor’s permission required to enroll.

Participants receive advanced training in soccer.

Tennis (ages 6-15)

Gymnastics Program (ages 3-14)
Tuesday and Thursday evenings, beginning April 29. Call for times.

Splash Diving (ages 7-17)

Beginning and intermediate instruction for youth comfortable in deep water.

Adult Volleyball League (ages 16+)
Mondays, 6:15 to 8:15 p.m., beginning April 28.
Fee: $180 per team plus officials’ fees for six-week league.

Adult Basketball League (ages 16+)

Indoor Soccer League (ages 4-6)

T-Ball Party (ages 3-6)
Wednesday, April 30, 5 to 6 p.m.

Wear your favorite jersey to play T-ball, make a pennant and enjoy hot dogs and lemonade.

Fitness Club (ages 14+)
Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., Saturday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Sunday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fee: $6/day; $10/week; $29/month; $150/6 months; $230/year; family discount available. Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive, (702) 229-1100. Includes access to cardio room, weight room, open gym, all fitness classes and fitness assessment. Personal trainer available at extra charge per hour. Less expensive memberships available for fitness classes only, cardio and weight equipment only, or equipment and open gym only.

Water Exercise (ages 18+)

In the morning class, Instructor Barb helps you improve your cardiovascular system using aquatic principles of resistance and buoyancy. Exercise progressions allow individuals to work at their own level. In the evening, Amanda will help refresh and energize your body and mind as you jam to music building muscle and strength with water aerobics.

Arthritis Water Exercise (ages 18+)
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, noon to 1:30 p.m.
Fee: $2 per session for adults; $1.80 per session for ages 50+. Senior Dimensions accepted.

Make progressive improvement in strength, endurance and range of motion. Exercise in a comfortable, supportive environment. Pool temperature is maintained 82 -84 .

Aquatic Therapy for Recovering Stroke Patients (ages 18+)
Tuesday and Thursday, 11 a.m. to noon
Daily fee or Senior Dimensions benefit.

Working out with peers helps keep you motivated!

Fitness for Kids (ages 5-10)
Tuesdays, 6 to 7 p.m., beginning April 29.
Fee: $29

Children learn to make the right choices in fitness and nutrition. Each receives a pedometer and incentives are offered for reaching certain milestones.

Weight Room 101 (ages 16+)
Tuesday, April 1, 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Fee: $5

Learn proper form on weight room machines, which muscles each machine targets, general fitness principles and weight room etiquette. Gain confidence to build your own workout and exercise on your own or with new friends.

Biggest Leisure Loser Club (ages 14-adult)
Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. begins April 29.
Fee: $75 for six-week session

Join the club to receive peer support to lose weight as you work with a qualified trainer, exercise indoors and outdoors and swap healthy recipes. Get healthy!

Mommy & Me Fitness (ages infant to adult)
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 to 10 a.m., begins April 29.
Fee: $85 for six-week session
Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive, (702) 229-1100.
The class takes place inside and outside, some days using your stroller for cardio and other days using hand weights to tone and firm, plus yoga and Pilates for core strengthening and flexibility.
