2008 UNLV Football Schedule

April 1, 2008

The UNLV football team will celebrate its 40th anniversary season by hosting seven regular-season home games for the first time since 1979 as the Mountain West Conference released its complete 2008 schedule on Tuesday.

Season tickets are now on sale by calling (702) 739-FANS. Prices for the seven-game home package are $100 in the end zone and $185 for sideline seating. Premium seating requires an additional Rebel Athletic Fund donation. Orders will be taken and seat locations will be assigned based on order of receipt once the renewal deadline for Rebel Athletic Fund members and all current UNLV football season tickets holders (May 30) has passed. Season tickets will be mailed in early August. Individual tickets are scheduled to go on sale June 16 (see prices below).

A school-record-tying seven of UNLV's 12 opponents this fall played in bowl games last season, including four that are coming to Sam Boyd Stadium. This also marks the first season since 2002 that the Rebels will play all of their games on a Saturday.

"We’re very excited about having seven home games and getting to open the season at Sam Boyd Stadium,” said UNLV fourth-year head coach Mike Sanford. “We have Iowa State from the Big 12 Conference and the Team Up North in here while going to play a very good Pac-10 opponent so we look forward to the challenge. Three of our first five dates and then three of our last four are at home and our bye week also comes at a good time for us."

UNLV will open the year in August for the sixth time in history by hosting Utah State on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. PT. The Rebels' road schedule begins a week later when they travel to play Utah on Sept. 6. That is followed by the first-ever football meeting on Sept. 13 with Pac-10 Conference power Arizona State, which is fresh from a Pacific Life Holiday Bowl appearance.

The following week, Big 12 Conference member Iowa State comes to town on Sept. 20 for the second time ever during what will be UNLV Athletics Hall of Fame Weekend. The non-conference slate concludes on Sept. 27 when the Battle for the Fremont Cannon sees Nevada, Reno come south. A morning kickoff then awaits the Rebels on Oct. 4 when they travel to Colorado State.

After a bye week, the second half of the schedule sees UNLV playing four of six games at home. Air Force visits on Oct. 18 before the Rebels head to Provo to face defending Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl champion BYU on Oct. 25 in another early start.

The TCU Horned Frogs make their way to Sam Boyd on Nov. 1, New Mexico is here on Nov. 8 and UNLV closes its home schedule on Nov. 15 vs. Wyoming on Senior Day. The regular season then ends with a trip to San Diego State on Nov. 22.

No less than nine of 12 Rebel games are already scheduled to be televised this fall. The TCU home game and SDSU away game are slated for national telecasts on CBS College Sports Network (Cox Digital Channel 333/DIRECTV Channel 610/DISH Network 152) while seven games will be shown by The Mtn. –MountainWest Sports Network, which will be available nationally on DIRECTV starting in August (Cox Digital Channel 334/DIRECTV Channel TBA). Television information for two non-conference games – vs. Utah State and Arizona State – is to be announced.
