January 29, 2007 With Las Vegas style, Pole Position Raceway, an innovative indoor karting company, held a red carpet, grand opening celebration Tuesday, January 29, 2008. The event was attended by 300 plus, including 2004 NASCAR Champion Kurt Busch, ESPN/ABC Reporter Jamie Little, racing superstars and many local personalities
The event took place at the company’s state-of-the-art indoor speedway, located at 4175 South Arville. Busch and Little started the evening with opening remarks. “You’ve come to the right place,” Busch told the audience. “Pole Position Raceway is the only place to indoor race!” After opening remarks and a clever “race” by Blue Man Group, a celebrity race was held. Taking to the quarter-mile, European-inspired indoor track was Busch, Little, Two-Time Indy Car 500 Champion Al Unser Jr., Indy Pro Series Driver Al Unser III, NASCAR Driver Jason Leffler, NASCAR Sprint Cup Driver Robby Gordon, X-Games Gold Medalist Ken Block, and Four-Time World Hillclimb Champion Kerry Peterson. Steve Harwell, lead singer of the band Smashmouth, and Jason Beam, one of the premier motorsports helmet painters, completed the list of celebrity racers.
The group warmed up by racing Pole Position Raceway’s Italian-designed electric karts in a four-lap qualifying race before the main event. Al Unser Jr. proved that “once a racing legend, always a racing legend” by winning the 12-lap celebrity race. Gordon, who had the best single lap time of 26.87, came in second and Al Unser III placed third. Additionally, Busch placed fifth and Harwell came in seventh. “This evening was a huge success,” said Brad Mark, managing partner of Pole Position Raceway Las Vegas. “The Las Vegas community has really embraced Pole Position Raceway. We look forward to many successful years to come.” Pole Position Raceway is fast becoming one of Las Vegas’ top entertainment experiences.
