Gorman Gaels win 4A State
December 1, 2007

Keola Antolin and the Bishop Gorman defense were just too strong for the McQueen Lancers on Saturday, December 1st.

The Bishop Gorman Gaels defeated McQueen and won the Class 4A Nevada State title by a final score of 38-17 at Sam Boyd Stadium.

While injuries left Antolin on the sidelines a good portion of the season he made sure he made a final statement in the last game of the year and his High School career.  The senior rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns.

After starting with an early 14-0 and one of those touchdowns coming from the defense, Antolin stepped it up and had two first-half touchdown runs to help the Gaels jump to a 23-0 lead in the first half.

The second of those touchdowns for Antolin was a 90 yard scamper.

The Lancers would score a late first half touchdown to go into the locker rooms 23-7.

McQueen closed the gap in the fourth quarter to 23-17 but on Gorman's first offensive play of the fourth quarter, Antolin broke a 30-yard run, dragging tacklers the final 5 yards, to move the ball to the Lancers 30-yard line. Two plays later, he received a lateral and sprinted 27 yards for a TD to give the Gaels the 30-17 lead and a bit of breathing room.

Late in the game the defense stepped up again and shut the door on McQueen as sophomore linebacker Evan Palelei scooped up a fumble at the Gorman 14 and raced 86 yards for a touchdown.

This was Coach Altshuler’s first year as Head Coach for the Gorman Gaels. Not bad for a first year, but now it will be expected every year.
