Which Sport do you play? Soccer and Track. What school do you attend? Spring Valley High School How long have you competed and what motivated you to get involved in your sport? I’ve competed in soccer for almost 15 years and I have run track/cross country for about 8 years. I’ve always loved the competition of both sports. Although I enjoy running, soccer is my passion. I am motivated to play because of my love for the game. There is no sport like soccer. I challenge myself to get better everyday. What do you like most about your sport? I like the fact that there is always something going on, and that there is very little down time. I also like the fact that everyone has to depend on everyone. It teaches people to be a team player and to back up their teammates. What is your favorite sport to watch on TV and why? My favorite sport to watch on TV is baseball because it’s my dad’s favorite sport and is always on at home. I always have a good time watching it with him, and he makes me laugh when he yells at the TV because he’s into the game. Who is your favorite athlete or person you draw inspiration from? I draw inspiration from Derek Jeter because he is always doing everything he can to help his team win. He makes plays that no one else in baseball can make. He always displays good sportsmanship, and there is always a smile on his face. Do you think being an athlete helps or hinders you with your academic studies? Being an athlete probably helps with my academic studies because it motivates me to get my work done so I can play. Sports have helped me maintain a 4.673 GPA, but it does get rough at times, especially when I am playing two sports at once. I do make sure that my academics come first because I am a student first, then an athlete. What is the biggest challenge for a student athlete? The biggest challenge for a student athlete is time management. Student athletes must make sure that their studies are getting done along with practices and games. Student athletes must prioritize everything and often make sacrifices. Do you plan on pursuing your sport at the college level? Yes. Please list any accomplishments you are proud of achieving in your sport: I was selected as an All Southwest Conference player my junior year, and I have been a captain on my high school team for 4 years. In track, I was named MVP my freshman year and Coach’s Choice my sophomore year. FUN QUESTIONS Do you have a favorite saying? Never give up. What is your favorite food? Steak Favorite Show on TV?
