Bell gets weekly honors for 3rd time

October 15, 2007
Just days after being tabbed a midseason third team All-American by one media outlet, UNLV linebacker Beau Bell (Tustin, Calif./Tustin HS) lived up to the honor by being named Mountain West Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.

Bell turned in a dominant performance in the Rebels’ 24-14 loss to conference-leading BYU on Saturday. The senior finished with a season-high 13 total tackles and was responsible for three turnovers. He grabbed his first two career interceptions and also forced a conference-leading fourth fumble.

This is Bell’s second weekly honor this season and the third of his stellar career. He was also named on Sept. 24 after UNLV’s victory over Utah and following a victory over San Diego State on Oct. 8, 2005. He also tied a pair of former All-American defensive backs – Jamaal Brimmer and Kevin Thomas -- as the only UNLV defensive players to win a conference player of the week award three times in a career.

Bell, who currently leads the MWC with 74 total tackles, shared this week's award with San Diego State's Russell Allen who had 22 takedowns vs. Utah. Wide receiver Chad Hall of Air Force was named the offensive player of the week while punter/kicker Louie Sakoda of Utah earned the special teams nod.

Beau Bell is also has some loyal fans at sam Boyd Stadium during every home game!
