Heisman Trophy in Las Vegans future?
September 5, 2007
Former Bishop Gorman running back and 2005 top high school recruit DeMarco Murray showed exactly why he was that this past weekend in his debut for Oklahoma.

Murray a red shirt freshman scored four touchdowns before the first half was over. His first score came on a 44-yard scamper down the sideline to give the Sooner a 7-0 lead. He followed that with a 3-yard run and two one yard trots.

Oklahoma looked very dominating over their foe New Mexico State in a 73-3 rout. Murray made fans forget about 2004 heismen runner-up and now Minnesota Viking Adrian Peterson. Peterson also showed a lot of promise his freshmen season at OU as well going for 200 plus yards in his debut. Murray finished with 87 yards on 17 carries but he didn’t need much to show exactly how much talent he has.

Murray red shirted last season behind Peterson who was hurt but played through most of the injuries so that Murray could save himself for the next few years.

Of course this game was a walk through for the powerful OU but in this upcoming week’s game against Miami will show exactly how much talent this kid and his team has.

Murray a Gorman graduate led the Gaels in touchdowns his junior and senior years. He was the top recruit in the country in 2005 and picked OU over USC on national signing day by throwing the USC hat to the ground and putting on the Sooner cap.

It’s funny how players are chosen because Bob Stoops the Oklahoma head coach was at Gorman to see fellow Gael and Sooner teammate Ryan Reynolds when he discovered this youngster playing basketball in the gym. A Gorman coach told Murray to show coach Stoops a dunk and he threw it off the wall and jammed it home in the basket. Stoops was amazed on what type of an athlete this kid was.

Murray signed to play at Oklahoma with Reynolds and now their high school coach has joined the OU staff as a line coach.

He is an unstoppable force in the running game. Murray plays a lot like Reggie Bush in the fact that he is fast and very athletic. Murray like Bush will definately be a Heismen winner in the next year or two you can mark my word.

He is so gifted that his ability to know the field and where he is on it is better then any other running back to come out of Las Vegas like Steven Jackson. Murray gives the Sooners a chance at being back on top of the college football world.
