Kruger's Contract Approved
June 21, 2007
The Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education unanimously approved a new five-year contract through the 2011-12 season for UNLV head men's basketball coach Lon Kruger at a meeting Thursday at Truckee Meadows Community College in Reno.

The contract replaces Kruger's former agreement, which was set to run through 2010.

"Lon Kruger has the college basketball world talking about the Runnin' Rebels again and we look forward to him leading the program for a long time," UNLV Athletics Director Mike Hamrick said. "I'd like to thank President David Ashley and the entire Board of Regents for their total support on getting this contract completed."

"Barb and I are delighted," Kruger said. "We love living in Las Vegas and our association with UNLV, and we very much look forward to the continued relationship."

Kruger has compiled a three-year mark of 64-34 as UNLV's head coach and this past season the Runnin' Rebels won the Mountain West Conference Tournament Championship, finished with a 30-7 overall record and made a NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance - the program's first in 16 years.

Additionally, UNLV was 19-1 at home in 2006-07, including ending the season with 17 straight wins at the Thomas & Mack Center, which ties for the 10th-longest active streak in the country. UNLV was ranked 14th in the nation in the final edition of the ESPN/USA Today Coaches' Poll.
