After trailing by seven midway through the second half, UNLV closed the game on a 12-3 run to rally for its fourth-straight victory, 63-58 at Colorado State on Saturday afternoon in the Mountain West Conference women’s basketball action from Moby Arena.

With the win in their regular season finale, the Lady Rebels evened their overall record at 14-14, and finished 8-8 in MWC play to finish sixth.  UNLV will be the sixth seed in next week’s Mountain West Conference Tournament, held in the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, and will take on third-seeded New Mexico on Wednesday at 2:30 pm in the quarterfinals.

Colorado State held its largest lead of the game, 47-40, thanks to a 10-3 run the featured two three-pointers.  UNLV answered back with a pair of its own, but Sara Hunter hit her third trey of the game for the Rams, followed by a layup from Kelly Finley to push the lead back to six.  The Ram edge was at 55-51 when UNLV began to turn up the defense, forcing two missed shots and four turnovers over the next three minutes.  Sequoia Holmes picked off one pass and raced in for a layup to make the score 55-53, and then Latosha Pace stole the insuring inbounds pass.  Kameca Simmons would be fouled on the possession, and after making one of two at the line, Allison Holiday grabbed the offensive rebound and lofted a short jumper to give UNLV the lead back, 56-55.

Holmes would hit a basket to extend the lead to five, and Simmons sealed the game with a three-point play with just 30 seconds left.  Emily Neal hit a trey for CSU to make the lead three with 12 seconds to go, but Simmons made two free throws with seven seconds for the final score of 63-58.

UNLV led the entire first half, and held its largest lead of seven, 23-16, with just over five minutes to play.  The Rams climbed back into the game at the free throw line, hitting five in a one-minute span to close the edge to just three.  Two layups by the home team in the final minute game them a one-point lead, but Latoya Hunt scored under the basket at the halftime buzzer to put UNLV up 27-26.

Holmes finished with a game-high 20 points and added a game-high 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the year.  She also added three steals.  Faye Muller also posted a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Simmons added 14 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and four steals.  UNLV finished the game shooting 35.3% (24-of-68) and held a 46-41 edge on the boards.  The Lady Rebels also finished the game with 14 steals.

Finley led the Rams with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but had seven turnovers.  Hunter finished with 13 points, while Marilyn Moulton posted 10 points and 11 rebounds.  CSU shot 38.5% (20-of-52) for the game, but was 12-of-22 at the line (54.5%) and turned the ball over 17 times.
