UNLV Wraps Up At MWC Indoor Championships

UNLV women’s track and field team scored 18 points and finished ninth Saturday at the 2007 Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center. Six Rebels earn All-MWC accolades at the meet

BYU ran away with the team title in both the women and the men, as the Cougars racked up 179 team points to win the women’s title. Colorado State took second with 122 and TCU was third with 116.

UNLV freshman Aja Evans scored the most points for the team on Saturday with a second-place finish in the shot put. The native of Chicago, Ill., had a distance of 48’-11.50” which was a career best and scored eight points for the Rebels.

Freshman Charlotte Browning added a fifth-place finish in the 800 meters for the Rebels, as she crossed the finish line in a time of 2:12.30 to score four points. Meia Tezeno added an eight-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.75 for another point and the 4x400 relay team also finished eighth in a time of 4:00.91.

Junior thrower Monique Humphries finished fifth in the weight throw on Friday, breaking her own school record in the event with a mark of 58’-1.00”. The throw earned the Rebels their first four points of the meet.

All four individuals who scored points for the Rebels earned All-Mountain West Conference honors. Lekeisha Lawson and De’Lace Kelly also earned the accolades, joining Browning and Tezeno on the relay team.
