Everyone Is Invited to Adult Wheelchair Basketball Tournament January 27-28
January 26, 2007
Bring the family to see former Lady Rebel basketball star Misty Thomas in this weekend's Adult Division III Wheelchair Basketball Tournament at Doolittle Community Center. Free for spectators, the games will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, January 27-28.

Originally from Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Thomas led the Lady Rebels basketball team in her senior year (1985-86) in every way: highest average score per game, most rebounds per game, most assists per game, and leading scorer in 23 out of the 31 games the team played, including the NCAA National Tournament. She was a star in the classroom, too, earning Co-SIDA Academic All-America honors (first team) for three consecutive years. She still holds several Lady Rebel records, including All-Time Leading Scorer (1,892 points in 114 games), and is the first female UNLV athlete to have her jersey retired (No. 4).

Thomas is well recognized in her native Canada, where her father was a basketball coach for the University of Windsor. She was a member of the 1984 Canadian Olympic basketball team that placed fourth in the Los Angeles Summer Games. In her high school years, she was All-City four times and a Provincial All-Star, the equivalent to All-America honors in the United States. In 1998, Thomas was inducted into the Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame. Just last year, she was a member of the Canadian team that won the gold medal in the Wheelchair Basketball World Championships in Amsterdam.
