December 3, 2006 The Las Vegas High School Wildcats make it a repeat as 4A Nevada High School Football State Champions by defeating the Galena Grizzlies 33-6 at Sam Boyd Stadium on December 2nd.
It was a cold and windy Saturday afternoon and history was made once again as the oldest school in Southern Nevada repeats as 4A State Champions. Also the winningest school in nevada state history. The last repeat was in 98' & 99' by Cimmaron Memorial High School. The final score of 33-6 over Galena made it look like a blow out, but the first half was a tough battle of hard hitting football and dealing with the elements that resulted in only a 7-6 lead. The Wilcats got the ball down wind to start the second half and took advantage with a hurry up offense. The strategy paid off for Coach Faircloth and the Wildcats never looked back. "This is all about the kids," said Coach Faircloth, "It feels great and I am very happy for them." When asked about a 3-peat, Coach Faircloth stated, "We have to enjoy this day right now and when we start to prepare for next year we'll work hard and try our best." There hasn't been a 3-peat since Wooster did it in the mid 80's, but could the Wildcats of Las Vegas High School be the next dynasty of 4A Nevada State football? |
