LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior Sarah Muniz has been selected as the Mountain West Conference Women's Outdoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week after her strong performance in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the season-opening UNLV Track Classic.

Muniz won the steeplechase in a collegiate meet-record time of 11:04.95 this past Saturday at Myron Partridge Stadium and Sheila Tarr-Smith Field, and her time was a personal best and ranks as the second-fastest time in UNLV history.

Muniz winning the weekly award marks the first time a UNLV student-athlete has earned the MWC weekly honor since Christine Spence took home honor on April 17, 2001. Overall it is the third time in MWC history that a Rebel has been named the athlete of the week.
