No. 15 Rebels Finish Seventh In Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. - The No. 15 UNLV men's golf team shot a final-round
1-under-par 283 on Tuesday and finished in seventh place at the Arizona
Intercollegiate, which was played at the par-71, 6,793-yard Arizona National
Golf Club.

California used a 4-under 280 on the final day to hang on for a one shot
victory as the Golden Bears finished the 54-hole tournament with a 29-under
823. Host Arizona shot 10-under 274 during the final round to finish at
28-under 824. Fresno State finished third at 14-under, followed by Florida
in fourth at 13-under and Texas A&M rounded out the top five at 11-under.
The Rebels finished at 4-under 848.

Colby Smith shot 1-under 70 during the final round to lead all Rebel
individuals with a seventh-place tie at 6-under 207. He finished seven shots
behind individual medalist Rich Saferian from Arizona, who shot a
final-round 5-under 66 to finish at 13-under 200 for the tournament. Two
golfers tied for second at 10-under.

Other Rebel players: Derek Ernst tied for 29th at even-par 213 after a
final-round 1-over 73, Brett Kanda tied for 33rd at 2-over 215 after a
final-round 71, Jeremiah Wooding tied for 43rd at 4-over 217 after a
final-round 2-under 69 and Kevin Penner tied for 56th at 11-over 224 after a
final-round 2-over 73.

UNLV's next outing will be at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa,
Hawaii, Feb. 17-19.
