Sentinel's Haslett Makes It To The NFL

Wednesday, January 13, 2010

NEW YORK, NY (January 13, 2010) – The United Football League continues its mission of providing opportunities for players and coaches at the highest levels as Florida Tuskers Head Coach Jim Haslett transitions to a new role as Defensive Coordinator of the Washington Redskins.  Coach Haslett, who was named the UFL's 2009 Men's Wearhouse Coach of the Year, led his Florida team to an unblemished 6-0 regular season record and a spot in the UFL Championship during the League's "Premiere" season.

"Coach Haslett is among the most talented head coaches I have ever been associated with," said commissioner Michael Huyghue.  "We congratulate Coach Haslett on his new position with the Redskins.  While we will certainly miss him here at the UFL, the United Football League's business model is for players and coaches to hone their skills during our season and then transition to the NFL, if desired.  Coach Haslett, like 27 of our players who have since joined NFL rosters, will certainly make his mark among the upper echelon in the NFL.

"Coaching in the UFL was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed working with players who truly wanted to learn and become better football players," said Coach Haslett.  "I joked during the season that the talent level of the Tuskers could rival some of the teams in the NFL and I truly believe it.  I know that I will see many players from the UFL in the NFL next year and in the future."

The United Football League is in preparation for its second season which kicks-off in September with a 10-week regular-season schedule and two expansion teams.  Announcements regarding expansion cities, new coaches and additional investors will be made in the next two months.

Since November 24th, 27 players have been signed to NFL teams' active roster(s) and/or practice squad(s).
