Which sport do you play? Softball What position do you play? Pitcher, 1st base and Outfield
What school do you attend? Sierra Vista High School How long have you played and what motivated you to get involved in this sport? I’ve been playing since I was 6, so almost 11 years. I really loved the sport from the first day I played it. I tried other sports but I couldn’t get into them. Softball has always been my motivation and it has kept me active throughout most of my life. Please list any accomplishments you are proud of achieving in your sport: I’m proud of making All State last year. I’m also proud of my teammates and myself for taking 1st at Regionals. I feel I have learned a lot about life through softball, it teaches you to be a team player and to become mentally strong.
What do you like most about your sport? I love the environment that I’m in with my teammates and my coaches. I love the fact that my teammates and I all get along, even though we are all very different. We know when to be serious and when to have fun. I’m very comfortable with the group of girls at Sierra Vista.
What is your favorite sport to watch on TV and why? I love watching football because it’s such a contact sport. I get so into it when I’m watching it with the guys in my family. I also like watching softball; it’s just not as exciting as football.
Who is your favorite athlete or person you draw inspiration from? Why do you draw inspiration from this person? I’m inspired the most by Jennie Finch because I can relate to her the most. She is an awesome pitcher and she has made it the farthest you can go in a softball career which is to the Olympics. Do you think that being an athlete helps or hinders you with your academic studies? I feel it helps. Being an athlete makes you work harder to keep your grades up because you cannot fail any classes or else you will be ineligible. It definitely kept me in check with my grades because there has been times where I wanted to slack in class but I knew my coach would do a grade check and I could never do that to my team. I have a 3.2 GPA
Do you plan on pursuing your sport at the college level? Yes, I am very passionate about this sport and I would love to continue my softball career at the college level. I have a chance to play at the colleges that I chose which are ASU and UNLV, however I have not made any decisions as of yet.
Do you plan on pursuing a career in your sport as a professional? In softball, college is basically the final stage in your career. There are the Olympics but not everyone gets the chance. You never know what could happen in my career but I would love the chance to play in the Olympics if the opportunity was presented.
If you do not pursue a professional career in your sport what else would you like to do in life? I would love to be an Interior Designer or a Fashion Designer. If that doesn’t work out I would pursue a career in the real estate industry or become a Cosmetologist. I feel any one of those jobs would be great to have. Do you have a favorite saying? Wear your seatbelt! What is your favorite food? Chicken. I hate beef. Favorite show on TV? Real World and American Idol. Favorite movie? White Chicks. I love all comedy movies. In my own words? I would like to thank my family, teammates and coaches throughout my softball career for all the support and opportunities that they given me. Without them I wouldn’t have been able to become the person and player I am today. |
