Schelling Performs Well At WABL

Thursday, June 27, 2009

DEVENS, Mass.--UNLV women's golf sophomore Kristen Schelling advanced to the third round of the 2009 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship on Thursday, which is being played at the 6,267-yard, par-72 Red Tail Golf Club.

Schelling earned a victory in her first matchup of the morning, defeating Kate Ackerson 1 up, setting up a pairing with Sun Gyoung Park this afternoon. With a spot in Friday's quarterfinals up for grabs, Schelling fell to Park, 5 and 4, eliminating her from the tournament.

Schelling won her opening matchup in impressive fashion on Wednesday, defeating Annie Park 4 and 3, to move her into Thursday morning's second round against Ackerson. Schelling opened the tournament with two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday, shooting scores of 77 (+5) and 75 (+3).

Schelling earned a spot at the championship by advancing through sectional qualifying, finishing third in a sectional play at Spanos Park Golf Club in Stockton, Calif., on May 28.
