Fighting For A Job: Should UFC Fighters Get More Money

Monday, March 1, 2010

By Isaac Kuhlman

I recently wrote an article (A Modest Proposal) based on how the money of the Ultimate Fighting Championship breaks down into payouts for fighters. I am basing my claims on pretty solid numbers, and if they are wrong, I would like to see solid evidence that they are different. I am going to go even further into these numbers to show what can really be done in the UFC to pay their fighters.

Tuff-N-Uff Brings the "Wow" Factor

Friday, February 26, 2010

By Isaac Kuhlman

The Tuff-N-Uff Amateur Fighting Championship is fairly well known by MMA enthusiasts in Southern Nevada and Southern California. It is known to have exciting and competitive fights. It is known to be a pioneer organization in the world of amateur MMA. It is known to have some pretty big names come through their ranks--though they are relatives of UFC fighters (Couture, Mir). However, in all the times I have seen Tuff-N-Uff fights, I have NEVER seen a night of fights as I witnessed tonight. The fight card was filled with some interesting fights (with some pretty big upsets as well), but the icing on the proverbial cake was definitely Couture's dominant performance against fellow UFC Hall-Of-Famer Coleman. The fight proved that Couture is a physical phenom at 46 years old, and he shows no signs of stopping.

By Isaac Kuhlman

(This is a transcribed interview with WEC's former featherweight champion, Mike Brown, talking about the signing of his next fight with Manny Gamburyan.)

Q: Hey Mike. It was just announced that you signed to fight Manny Gamburyan.

Brown: Yeah. They announced it today.

Q: So, what are your thoughts on your opponent?

Brown: He's tough. You know? He's a good grappler. He's been around...a good veteran. It's a big fight. He's top 10 in the world, and that's what I wanted. I need a contender.
