Hendo and The Bully at Operation All In

Saturday, August 22, 2009

By Isaac Kuhlman

"Operation All In" is a pro-am charity poker tournament hosted by Randy Couture on behalf of his G.I. Foundation which was founded to raise money for wounded soldiers. The event also has a memorabilia auction that raises funds for charity as well. This year, the event was held at the Golden Nugget Casino and hosted many celebrities and fighters to help raise money for the foundation. Overall the event raised $42,000 for the G.I. Foundation through the buy-ins and memorabilia auctions.

I happened along Dan "Hendo" Henderson and Gray "The Bully" Maynard as they were milling around the event, so I asked them some questions.

Tuff-N-Uff's Card a New Best

Saturday, August 22, 2009

By Isaac Kuhlman

Tuff-N-Uff Promotions hosted quite possibly the most exciting night of action from fights that I have ever seen on Saturday night. The event was a 17-fight amateur mixed-martial arts card with fighters from major gyms such as Eddie Bravo's 10th Planet, Xtreme Couture, Warrior, TapouT R&D, Legends MMA, Excel Defense, Striking Unlimited, and many more. The gathering of such a diverse group of techniques and styles made for some of the most action-packed fights at any level. The night culminated in the main event where Ryan "The Lion" Couture pulled out a great armbar submission on the aggressive and powerful Jimmy Spicuzza at only 1:22 of round 1.

Couture came in billed as the headliner, and he delivered. The short fight was full of action, and at about the 1-minute mark when Spicuzza hit Couture with a punch right on the chin that sent Couture to the canvas, but simultaneously Couture hit Spicuzza with a shot that pushed him away long enough to catch his focus. As Spicuzza tried to pounce to end the fight, Couture used textbook technique on what to do when you get rocked. Spicuzza fell into Couture's guard, and Couture kept close in a clinch on the ground. Then, very quickly he rolled over and put Spicuzza in a vicious armbar that forced Spicuzza to tap. The crowd went crazy as it was one of those moments when the expectations of outcomes shifted dramatically in the opposite direction without much time in between.

Lesnar, St. Pierre Look To Be Unstoppable

Saturday, July 11, 2009

By Isaac Kuhlman

UFC 100 had a very high bar to try to meet with the hype of the event. The real story was to see if two of the biggest fighters in their respective weight classes could retain their belts. In this department, the fights were everything a fan could expect. A giant Brock Lesnar and a superbly conditioned Georges St. Pierre put their titles on the line and walked away the victors of their fights.

Palmer Puts Her Stamp on Historical Headline

Friday, July 10, 2009

By Isaac Kuhlman

Las Vegas, NV--The Orleans Arena and Tuff-N-Uff Productions made Las Vegas and MMA history on Friday night by putting on the first all-female amateur MMA promotion. Yes, there have been other all-female promotions, but they are strictly boxing, muay thai, or kickboxing events and have been professional fighters for the most part. The talk of the night was not about the history being made, however. It was all about one fighter who has proven time and time again that she is a true force to be reckoned with. That name, that fighter, well, that's Moa Palmer, and her fight was the main event.
