Aoki is Dynamite! On New Year's Eve

Friday, January 1, 2009

By Isaac Kuhlman

In probably the greatest submission since Frank Mir broke Tim Sylvia's arm in half (both Ulna and Radius bones were snapped), Shinya Aoki did the unbelievable--he broke his opponent's arm via submission. His opponent, Mizuto Hirota, got caught in a hammerlock that Aoki turned into one of the most dominant extended kimuras that I have ever seen, and Hirota was too proud to tap. That was a bad idea. As Aoki said after the fight, "Well, this guy's pride just won't let him tap, will it? So without hesitation, I broke it. I heard it break, and I thought, 'Ah, there, I just broke it.'"

Dream 12 Brings A White Cage and Great Fights

Sunday, October 25, 2009

By Isaac Kuhlman

So, the much-anticipated debut of DREAM's "White Cage" and 3 5-minute rounds was a little less than fantastic (the cage helped keep action going, but the shorter 1st round made the rounds seem really short), but the fights that were on the card did not disappoint. The only thing missing was Paulo Filho who didn't show for the fight and was not able to be located until his mom (that's right, his mom) called DREAM organizers to tell them he couldn't get his Visa to fight on the card. That said, Eddie Alvarez, Alistair Overeem, Marius Zaromskis, and Kazushi "The Gracie Hunter" Sakuraba all looked incredible in their victories.

MMA Xplosion Will Bring "Explosive" Fights To The M

Thursday, October 8, 2009

By Isaac Kuhlman

Today the M Resort hosted a press conference in their Ravello Lounge to promote the MMA Xplosion Pro-Am MMA event on Saturday night. Professional fighters Steve Sharp, John Gunderson, Blas Avena, Dave Hulett and Kelly Gray shared the podium with amateurs Matt Conte, Joe Angelo and Javier Torres along with MMA Xplosion promoters Vlad Warton and Rani John. The fight card is as good of a fight card as I have seen outside of the UFC/WEC in Las Vegas for quite some time. The fights are going to be very exciting as there are several "heavy-handed" fighters in the lineup, and all the fighters are happy to be showcasing their skills in front of a Las Vegas crowd.
