LAS VEGAS--UNLV men's basketball junior Matt Shaw is ineligible for competition per NCAA rules for the 2010-11 season, the athletics department announced Tuesday. Although Shaw's collegiate basketball career has ended, he plans to complete his undergraduate degree this summer.

LAS VEGAS - UNLV, which earned its 17th bid all-time and third in the last four seasons, will travel to Oklahoma City to face 25th-ranked Northern Iowa at the Ford Center in the first round of the 2010 Division I NCAA Men's Basketball Championship on Thursday. Game time for the CBS broadcast will be at approximately 4:10 p.m. PT (6:10 p.m. Oklahoma time).

  The UNLV men's basketball team looked very impressive for the first 36 minutes of Friday night's quarterfinals matchup against #15 BYU. It was looking like the Rebels would come away with a big win after leading by 11 points in a couple of different points in the second half, but, with around a minute and thirty seconds remaining, BYU pulled ahead. It looked like Rebel fans would see heartbreak again. A loss would put questions into an NCAA tourney bid, but a win would almost certainly give the Rebels a good shot at the field of 64. Whether it was strategy or execution, the Rebels held on after losing the lead late to win by a final score of 70-66 to advance to the Mountain West Conference Tournament finals against the San Diego State Aztecs Saturday afternoon after the Aztecs took down the top-seeded New Mexico Lobos in another nail-biting performance.

LAS VEGAS - UNLV men's basketball junior Tre'Von Willis and sophomores Chace Stanback and Oscar Bellfield were all recognized as part of the All-Mountain West Conference awards announced by the league on Monday.
